Yuma Shirase (白瀬 優馬 Shirase Yūma) is an idol under TSUKINO TALENT PRODUCTION. He is a member of the unit VAZZY.
Official Character Introduction[]
“Gentle and polite to everyone, he’s a Prince by looks and personality. He has a calm temperament and can do anything so he’s often called an [honor student]. Of course, everyone has their own impression of him but, since he can’t seem to be able to deviate from the [honor student] image, it’s beginning to influence him.
He met Naosuke under unexpected circumstances but since the boy has never been bothered by Yuma’s honor student image, Yuma finds it easy to relax and be himself with Naosuke.”[1]
Appearance[]
Yuma is a young man of average height with short blonde hair that curls at the tips and gray/light blue eyes.
Personality[]
Yuma has a princely aura and is viewed as rather perfect. He is humble and rational but wants to try to diversify his image and experiences. He spends a lot of time with Naosuke, his best friend.
Yuma seems like the stereotypical smart, honor-student type of person at first glance. And while he does possess all those qualities on the surface, Yuma is a person who is able to surprise others and do things that are quite unexpected of him. He is called princely because of his face and attitude, but it’s not a nickname that he was really eager about in the beginning.[2][3][4][5]
He is very determined and resolute. Now that he has joined the VAZZROCK Project, he has since sworn to do more to showcase his individuality. He is a lot quieter (though not timid or passive) compared to his best friend Naosuke, but there are times when he shows excitement for things he finds interesting. However, he can also be a little bit stubborn depending on the situation.[2][3][6][7]
He is very responsible and very mature for his age. Once he’s been tasked to do something, he will always give it his 100%. He is rarely satisfied with his own work and will always do what he can to achieve better. He’s not afraid to ask for help should the situation call for it.[2][3][8][9]
He is very diligent as well and tries to stick to his schedule as much as he can. He likes to keep his room clean and he gets a bit concerned when he’s behind on his cleaning.[2][10]
He is also very polite, has great manners, and gets along well with elderly people. He speaks formally and politely with members who are older than him. He rarely talks back to anyone, but as time progresses and as he gets to know the other members better, he’s not as scared to reprimand even Takaaki when he’s being unreasonable.[2][4][9][11]
Though Yuma is generally polite as a rule, there are times when he can also be a little petty and competitive. He is studious and very eager to impress. He admits that he’s a quite selfish person, but it’s not a side that he wants to show to anyone aside from Naosuke.[2][9][10]
Yuma is a very impressionable person and will try anything that he gets invited to (given that they’re reasonable and legal, of course). He has tried listening to more classical music because of Shou, and has begun to show interest in stage plays thanks to Ruka’s invitations. However, as much hobbies as he tries, Yuma has expressed that he has no particular thing that he’s very passionate about. He has described himself as a very “heartless and boring person” due to the fact.[3][8][9]
Yuma feels a little envious when he sees people that are passionate about a certain hobby (like Naosuke with his games, Ruka and acting, etc.) He has admitted that he’s not compassionate at all. However, he is not scared to try new things and hopes that along the way, he gets to discover his passion. He yearns to have something that only he can do and something that will make him stand out a little from the others.[8][9]

Prior to joining the VAZZROCK Project, Yuma was a typical high school student. He and Naosuke got scouted together and debuted in VAZZY soon after.[4][5]

Yuma has been getting more jobs here and there and has even been invited to do acting roles for a movie together with Takaaki and Ouka. He still doesn’t have an exclusive manager yet, however.[11][12]

VAZZY[]
Takaaki Mamiya – Yuma respects Takaaki as a leader and greatly looks up to him in all aspects. Yuma looks to Takaaki for advice when he can and Takaaki answers him earnestly. Being a complete newbie to the industry, Yuma always tries his best to learn from Takaaki’s example and as such, he treats their leader as a role model.[4][11]
Despite Yuma’s young age and lack of experience in the industry, Takaaki believes that Yuma still has a lot of potential to show. Takaaki praises Yuma’s growth in the unit and in the industry as a whole and jokes that it’s about time for him to retire (as VAZZY’s leader) and let Yuma take over. Though, Takaaki’s not immune to teasing Yuma from time to time. [11][13]
Yuma always listens to Takaaki’s advice earnestly and tries his best to put into action whatever Takaaki taught him. Yuma is generally polite towards Takaaki, but if Takaaki’s being stubborn, Yuma’s not afraid to be stern and even raise his voice a little.[11]
Takaaki has mentioned multiple times that he thinks of Yuma (and the rest of VAZZY) as his children. [4][10]
Ouka Kira – Being someone who’s on the same wavelength as he is, Ouka is one of the seniors that Yuma looks up to the most. Ouka is not reluctant to offer him advice and Yuma is always ready to receive it no matter how bluntly it was given. Yuma treats Ouka as a role model and is mesmerized by Ouka’s ability to do a lot of things efficiently and with great results as well. [4][7][14]
Since Ouka is one of the shorter members, he is a little jealous of Yuma’s height. However, he’s never really bore a grudge or any ill-will towards Yuma for such reasons. Ouka is one of the people that Yuma goes to for advice whenever he needs second opinions. Despite Ouka’s own unique and shy nature, he’s always looking out for Yuma and Naosuke whenever he can. Issa Kiduku – Issa finds Yuma interesting and more agreeable compared to the energetic Naosuke. It was Issa who first called Yuma “Prince” due to his attitude and looks. Despite the teasing intent behind the nickname, it has been revealed in an official tweet that Issa really does like Yuma’s face, so the nickname has stuck since then.[4][7][15]
Since Yuma is one of the younger members, Issa is generally softer on him and tries to help him out with his problems whenever he’s able to. When Yuma was struggling to finish arranging his college courses, he went to ask Issa and Futaba for help.[3][10]
Futaba Kiduku – Since both Futaba and Yuma had no experience in the industry prior to their debut in VAZZY, they both have a certain mutual understanding about the hardships and troubles of trying to catch up to their more experienced seniors. They talk to each other about their experiences during work and try to give each other pointers on things that they can improve on.
Futaba is also ready and willing to help both Yuma and Nao when it comes to things that they’re unfamiliar with. This includes schoolwork and sometimes even just consultations about things that bother them.[10] [3]
Futaba greatly admires Yuma’s dexterity and preparedness in cases of emergency and finds Yuma’s maturity admirable. Likewise, Yuma has praised Futaba for his strong mentality and readiness to face new challenges.[10] [6]
Naosuke Oyama – Naosuke and Yuma are each other’s best friends. Yuma first met Naosuke while he was roaming around an arcade and came across a crowd watching Naosuke play against people. Yuma stepped in when things were about to get rowdy as a college student attempted to pick a fight against Naosuke. Ever since then, they have been the best of friends.[5]
Yuma was one of the first people who was revealed to call Naosuke by his chosen nickname (Nao/Nao-kun) and as such, it made Naosuke decide then and there to be Yuma’s best friend. Naosuke knew at first glance that Yuma was a good person and has declared him his “bosom friend.”[5]
Yuma greatly admires Naosuke’s passion and enthusiasm for the things he enjoys (i.e. video games). In fact, it is exactly thanks to that passion that Yuma was captivated and began showing interest in being Naosuke’s friend.[5][9]
On the other hand, Naosuke admires a lot of Yuma’s traits and looks up to him as a role model in his own way. The number one thing Naosuke wants to do is surpass Yuma in terms of height. They think of each other as very cool as well. [5][10][12]
Despite their closeness, Yuma and Naosuke consider each other as worthy rivals, too. They are both fairly new to being idols as they were scouted (and then debuted) together. They’re supportive towards each other and use each other as motivation to achieve better. When things don’t go as planned, they’re also the first to comfort each other. Naosuke is one of the people that Yuma feels he can be completely himself around, and vice-versa.[4][16][17]
Though Naosuke is the more vocal of the two, Yuma has his own ways of expressing his gratitude and appreciation for Naosuke’s friendship and rivalry. Yuma is very helpful and encouraging towards Naosuke and his ambitions, but he’s not afraid to reprimand Naosuke with a little reason here and there. Yuma likes it when Naosuke is happy and has revealed that he doesn’t want to see Naosuke sulk because of him.[4][6][7][9][10]
They are complete opposites when it comes to their natural personalities, but they bring the best out in each other. Yuma is proud to be Naosuke’s best friend.
ROCK DOWN[]
Shou Onoda – Shou and Yuma first interacted when Haruto requested Yuma’s help to wake Shou up for his recital. Yuma is at first nervous and unsure of what to do or say around Shou, but after a few minutes of talking, they started getting along quite well. Yuma thinks highly of Shou and admires his talents not only as a violinist, but also as ROCK DOWN’s leader. [2]
Shou is very friendly towards Yuma and has expressed interest in wanting to be friends with him. Since Shou is older, Yuma is very polite and courteous towards him during their first meeting as well. Shou insisted that Yuma speak casually to him, but Yuma was reluctant to do so at first because of Shou's history in the industry. Yuma thinks of Shou as a very dependable person.[2]
They both share a love for music and found that a topic to bond about. Since Yuma has said he played the piano a little, Shou has been interested in trying to get him to perform a little duet piece with him (which he eventually succeeds in doing). Yuma often goes to Shou’s recitals whenever he can, which Shou really appreciates.[2][8]
Gaku Oguro – Yuma looks up to and respects Gaku as a senior in the industry a lot. Due to Gaku’s really nurturing nature, Yuma was quickly able to open up to him about his worries. Since Gaku had recently graduated from college, Yuma has asked him for advice about schoolwork. Gaku was willing to help and he praises Yuma for being a diligent and hard-working student while he’s at it, too.
Yuma thinks that Gaku is an amazing person while Gaku thinks that Yuma is an interesting young man who’s got a whole life ahead of him. Gaku is also supportive of Yuma’s quest to find something he’s passionate about.[9]
Ruka Nadumi – Ruka is very friendly towards Yuma and thinks of him as a capable junior as well. Yuma looks up to Ruka as a senior in the industry, but still finds it easy enough to relax around him and ask him for advice. Yuma enjoys Ruka’s outbursts of passion (since it reminds him of Naosuke) and is willing to go along and play with Ruka’s ideas. [3][6][8]
Ruka thinks that Yuma has potential in the industry and wishes for him to put himself out into the world more. Ruka is, however, jealous of Yuma’s height a little. Ruka and Yuma are easily able to confide in each other and share excitements with each other when given the chance. Yuma seemed to enjoy hearing stories about Ruka from Gaku as well.[3][6][8][9]
Ruka thinks of Yuma as an interesting person as well, and has shown joy in seeing Yuma experience and enjoy new things (such as going to Shou’s recitals and watching Ruka’s stage plays). Ruka is also willing to help Yuma with any academic concerns as Ruka is also someone who recently graduated from college. [8][9]

- The first character of his surname (白) means "white", while the second kanji (瀬) means "fast, current".
