Naosuke Oyama (大山 直助 Ōyama Naosuke) is an idol under TSUKINO TALENT PRODUCTION. He is a member of the unit VAZZY.

“He likes to think of himself as an arrogant type of guy, but the people around him consider him to be a lovable and passionate idio—young man.

He’s always energetic, bright, and honest. He has a complex with his name so he has a particular dislike when people make fun of him for his given name. Since Yuma was the first person to not judge his name, he considers him his best friend.

He has a lot of good reactions so the adults around him like teasing him.”

Appearance 

Naosuke is a teen of average height with short dark red hair, with long wavy bangs covering one side of his face, and orange eyes.

Personality 

Naosuke (preferring to be called Nao) is full of life and wants to be proud and responsible. While an easy target for teasing, he possesses a fiery spirit and holds himself very accountable.

Naosuke is best known for his liveliness and relentless energy. He is a bright, active young man who’s always ready to take anything on. He is very straightforward and doesn’t hesitate to say what comes to his mind, but he can also be very naïve and clueless about a lot of things. He is very determined, but can get distracted just as easily. 

He is very passionate when it comes to things that he likes (i.e. video games, work, etc.). He can, however, be a little bit lazy when it comes to schoolwork—a trait that his VAZZY seniors and even Ayumu have reprimanded him for. Because of his very positive character, he has been appointed VAZZY’s MC during VAZZRadi and various events.

He is very excitable and is prone to shouting when he sees or experiences things that excite him, but he knows when to hold back and keep a professional attitude. He is one of the younger members, so he tries his best to learn a lot from his seniors in the agency. 

Despite his naiveté, Naosuke has been hinted to be someone who’s very great at reading the atmosphere. He is able to take social cues very well and can react accordingly depending on the situation he’s been faced with. As the years pass and the longer they’ve spent as members of the Project, Naosuke has been able to showcase his mature side every now and then.

Naosuke is unyielding and if there’s something that he wants done, he will never stop or quit until he accomplishes his goal (i.e. when he challenged Issa). He is very direct to the point and is the kind of person who knows what he wants without thinking too deeply about it. 

He has a very particular complex about his first name since he claims that it sounds so old-fashioned. Thus, he asks everyone to call him by his chosen nickname (Nao) which, in his point of view, sounds more modern and more fitting for someone like him. He is also a little bit insecure about his height since he is one of the shorter members and wishes to surpass Yuma one of these days. 

He has a bit of a chivalric spirit and is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. He can be quite demanding and noisy as well. Issa has described him to be “annoying” and “bratty” but as they spend more time as members of the VAZZROCK Project, Naosuke has proven otherwise.

All-in-all, he is a very passionate, straightforward, and free-spirited young man with lots of goals and ambitions.

History 

Prior to being scouted to join VAZZROCK together with Yuma, Naosuke was a simple high school student. He had no experience in the industry whatsoever and was a complete beginner when it came to a lot of things.

Naosuke has starred and guested in a lot of VAZZRadi segments and is sometimes appointed as VAZZY’s MC due to his energy. He has been appearing in more work with the rest of the unit as well.

Takaaki Mamiya - Naosuke greatly respects Takaaki both as a person and as a leader. He has considered Takaaki to be a great role model and aspires to be as popular as he is one day. Due to Takaaki being his senior in the industry, Naosuke asks Takaaki for advice a lot. Takaaki willingly helps and sometimes offers advice when he thinks it necessary—all of which Naosuke takes to heart and tries to follow diligently.

During a Mother’s Day tweet, Naosuke gave Takaaki a gift because to Naosuke, someone who is great at cooking and willingly feeds him is like a mother. Takaaki was happy about the sentiment and has admitted (albeit jokingly) that he thinks of Naosuke as a son of his own, too. Though, since Naosuke is really great at giving explosive reactions, Takaaki enjoys playfully teasing him and making him fluster. 

Takaaki has grown accustomed to knowing how to comfort Naosuke when he feels down. Takaaki is also shown to have shown interest and to have played along with a lot of Naosuke’s impulses and sudden ideas.

Takaaki believes that Naosuke has a lot of potential for growth in the industry, so he is always willing to assist him whenever possible. Naosuke on the other hand, trusts Takaaki a lot. Whenever Issa torments Naosuke or says mean things to him, Takaaki is one of the people who reprimands Issa. 

Ouka Kira - Just like with Takaaki, Naosuke looks up to Ouka as a senior in the industry. Ouka is a no-nonsense type of person, so Naosuke really admires his seriousness and professionalism. Despite having a shy personality of his own, Ouka has his own ways of encouraging both Naosuke and Yuma when the time calls for it.

Ouka had a hard time trying to adjust to Naosuke’s personality at first. Though, now he is very familiar with it to the point that he knows what stuff Naosuke likes and what events he would hate to miss out on.

Ouka praises Naosuke when he does something well, but is not afraid to give him constructive criticism if necessary—all of which Naosuke takes seriously as reminders to do better. 

Issa Kiduku - Issa and Naosuke had a sort of rocky, one-sided rivalry in the beginning. Naosuke had declared all of a sudden that Issa was his rival—one which Issa never took seriously. Naosuke was always challenging Issa to a competition which Issa always ignored. Suffice to say, Naosuke got on Issa’s nerves a lot during their beginnings as members of VAZZY. But as time went by, they’ve grown a little bit closer.

Issa has a soft spot for his juniors (though he doesn’t like to admit it), so he helps Naosuke out in his own manner. He would never say it outright, but he is willing to help and give him advice when necessary. Issa calls Naosuke “bratty” or “childish” and on more than one occasion, “dog” and “idiot”, but they’re never said with genuine ill or hurtful intentions. 

When Naosuke got sick from waiting for Issa in the cold rain, Issa was able to connect the dots easily and was resigned to take care of Naosuke. Despite his initial protests, he did his best to keep Naosuke comfortable and safe during the time. When Naosuke got better, he gave Issa a thank you gift in return. Though it was a sort of fever dream, Naosuke has muttered that Issa feels like an actual big brother.

As they spent more time as members of the VAZZROCK Project, Naosuke has grown used to Issa’s insults and doesn’t get affected much by them anymore. He will react, but not violently or loudly like he originally did. Naosuke has also learned how to tease Issa about various things, much to Issa’s annoyance.

Naosuke still thinks of Issa as a rival, and despite their casual banters, they both have a certain level of respect for each other as members of the same unit. 

Futaba Kiduku - Out of the Kiduku Brothers, Futaba is the one that is always softer and more supportive towards Naosuke. It’s partly due to Futaba’s nature, of course, but since the both of them are new to the industry, they understand each other on more levels.

Naosuke looks up to Futaba in more ways than one and thinks of him as a role model in his own right. Futaba is very supportive of Naosuke and treats him like he would a younger brother, too. Futaba is always ready to offer advice and support whenever Naosuke asks for it. Whenever Issa is being mean to Naosuke, Futaba is always the first to reprimand Issa. 

Yuma Shirase - Yuma and Naosuke are each other’s best friends. Naosuke and Yuma were both scouted to join the VAZZROCK Project while they were hanging out together.

They first met in an arcade that Naosuke frequented. Yuma was captivated by Naosuke’s energy and passion for playing games. When a university student was about to pick a fight with Naosuke over losing a game, Yuma intervened out of concern for Naosuke. They got along very well despite their first meeting being a little bit intense, and ever since then, they have been the best of friends. 

After joining the VAZZROCK Project, they have both acknowledged each other as worthy rivals on top of being great friends. Though they don’t want to lose to the other, they’re still very supportive and very encouraging whenever one of them does something well. Likewise, they’re always the first to comfort each other when something doesn’t go the way they want them to.

Yuma immediately referred to Naosuke by his preferred nickname “Nao”. It made Naosuke really happy and excited to the point that he declared then and there that Yuma would be his “bosom friend”. Naosuke wanted so badly to be friends with Yuma the moment they first met and believes Yuma to be a great person despite it being their first meeting. 

Yuma admires Naosuke’s passion and love for things (especially video games) that he joins him in his game sessions from time to time. Yuma believes that he’s grown in a lot of aspects thanks to meeting Naosuke. Yuma also genuinely thinks that Naosuke is very cool, too.

Naosuke aspires to be tall and cool like Yuma as well, but he’s never felt actual jealousy over his friend’s good points. Rather, he uses him as a motivation to achieve better things for himself, too. 

ROCK DOWN

Ayumu Tachibana - Naosuke and Ayumu are two completely different people in terms of personality. But being his senior, Naosuke looks up to Ayumu’s sense of professionalism and perfectionism. Ayumu and Naosuke get along fairly well as Naosuke is able to adjust his liveliness and recklessness whenever he’s with Ayumu. Naosuke is very well aware of Ayumu’s weak constitution as well as shy disposition, so he is courteous and very considerate whenever they spend time together—in private or during events.

Ayumu looks at Naosuke as a sort of younger brother as well since he has been curious about what it feels like having a younger brother of his own (since Ayumu only has an older sister). They also get along very well when it comes to spoiling the group pets Vazz and Rock. They were the ones who named Vazz and Rock respectively and the ones who forced Takaaki to keep the cats.

Naosuke also admires Ayumu’s intelligence and aspires to be as smart as he is, too.

Naosuke tries to do what he can to learn from Ayumu whereas Ayumu tries to have a more positive outlook on life the same way Naosuke does. In a sort of roundabout way, they inspire each other to do better. Naosuke also seems more mature whenever he’s with Ayumu. 

Ruka Nadumi - Naosuke and Ruka are both very energetic and lively, so they have more or less the same wavelength. Ruka is able to understand Naosuke’s obscure gaming references and can offer his own opinions every now and then. Naosuke admires Ruka’s acting skills and his abilities to make himself stand out and be loved by an audience. Ruka sees a lot of potential in Naosuke and so offers him advice whenever he can, too.

Naosuke admires the fact that Ruka has childhood friends (Gaku plus two more), and has once confessed that he would have liked to experience having a childhood friend of his own. Ruka is very understanding and very patient when it comes to Naosuke’s outbursts and is able to ride along with his excitement (which Naosuke appreciates). Ruka also calls Naosuke by his preferred nickname (Nao-kun). They’re also both very bitter about their short heights and wish to be taller.

Because of their energy and their optimism, Ruka and Naosuke are often tasked to be MC’s during various VAZZRadi segments.

• The first character of his surname (大) means "big", while the second kanji (山) means "mountain"
